The Importance Of Back Exercises In Your Bodybuilding Program

There are two primary reasons for getting into a bodybuilding program, trying to increase muscle mass and trying to increase functional strength. The key to both of these is building core strength, which lies in the abdominal muscles, and, just as importantly the muscles of the upper, middle and lower back.

The primary stabilizing muscles of your body are in your back, these are the easiest muscles to injure while lifting weights. Your back consists of the spine, the ribs, the scapula and the ligaments that string them all together, like parts of a mobile or kinetic motion structure.

Back injuries are almost always compression or rotation injuries, this is damage to the soft tissue, due to an over-extending movement of the back muscles involved. You can prevent back injuries by utilizing correct weight lifting techniques and muscle group isolation and you can also prevent physical problems from developing years later.

There are some muscle groups that you need to work on slowly in the back. They are your traps, lats and deltoids. Sure, your back will be ripped by overworking it, though, you should concentrate more on your everyday look than having a muscular back.

The traps muscles are the ones that form the bulk of your back. If you are looking to do Traps, then use a shrug motion, which has you taking dumbbells in each hand, and shrugging your shoulders up and down while you take a breath and then let them down while exhaling.

Another workout that mostly works on your deltoids, but helps the traps a bit, is a straight-arm lift. Hold a dumbbell in your hand with your elbow at your side, and your forearm out level with the map. Extend your arm until it's at shoulder height, in one fluid motion, and look down your arm at the dumbbell, like you're sitting on a pistol range. Then bring it down slowly. This is a common exercise in martial arts groups that emphasize punching.

You will want to to complete a sitting down "V-bar pull down" in order to build up the lower trapezius muscle, in which you are pulling down against resistance. This is better than a straight pull up because it isolates the muscle thoroughly.

If you are targeting your back, specifically your lower back, one exercise that is important in helping you gain strength in your back is shoulder arches. By doing shoulder arches you will not only gain strength (this is the most important thing), but you will also work on definition of your back as well. Hold a light dumb-bell over the back of your neck and lay down on your front. Clasp your hands, then arch your back, lift, count to three, then lower slowly. It's very easy to overdo them, so, do these sparingly.

As with all muscle building exercises, it's important to do stretches and a bit of cardio before and after doing them to maintain flexibility.

The answers are probably many, but the simplest answer is this: Because they can.

Abusing alcohol is easy to do. Few immediate penalties for excessive drinking, repeat offenders not being disciplined, parents not being told about their children's drinking activities, students getting mixed messages from the college administration about alcohol, students having seen their parents drinking alcohol in an careless manner, students not being educated about the long-term harmful consequences of alcohol abuse, there being few alcohol-free social and leisure activities that are eye-catching to students, minors or inebriated students being served alcoholic beverages by the local drinking establishments, and the drinking activities in the sororities and fraternities not being monitored all lead to drinking and excessive drinking becoming just one more drink away.

What might compel a student to drink alcohol? Without adding peer pressure or influence to the mix, when ignoring that drinking alcohol only temporarily removes a person from his or her problems, when overlooking the idea or perception that drinking alcohol makes it easier to interact with possible dating or sexual partners, when casting aside it being so tolerable to participate in activities that highlight the drinking of alcohol, when the "good feelings" or the "fun" of getting an alcohol high or buzz are not considered, and when the party atmosphere at college is no longer an expectation by students, only then does it become harder to determine what might cause college students to abuse alcohol. For all of the reasons above are factors in driving our college campuses to alcohol abuse.

Education is not enough. While drug and alcohol abuse prevention is the first step, education alone is not the only answer that an be implemented in the war against college drug and alcohol abuse. But what are some of the other means by which to get the message about self-destructive behaviors?

We must employ both proactive and reactive measures. Many proactive and reactive steps have been put in place at many colleges and universities that have lessened the availability, acceptability, and irresponsibility of alcohol use on and off campus. The result is this is a noticeable if not significant decrease in alcohol related issues started by students.

What are some of these measures? Establishing immediate consequences for excessive drinking, disciplining repeat alcohol abuse offenders, notifying parents about their children's drinking activities, eliminating mixed messages by college administrators about alcohol (for instance, removing alcohol advertisements from stadiums and from sports brochures), informing students about the long-tern negative consequences of alcohol abuse, increasing alcohol-free social and recreational activities that are attractive to students, having college administrators talk to the owners of local drinking establishments so that minors and/or intoxicated students are not served alcohol, and monitoring the drinking activities in the sororities and fraternities.

While medical research and treatment are positive steps, they are not enough. The above proactive and reactive measures, most of which are not education-based, are needed to compliment educational approaches alongside medical intervention if necessary. Even if the advancements in medical treatments can eliminate addictions, there will still be those who need it that will make every opportunity to avoid the chance. They will choose to disregard medical warnings, ignore their health, and who will discount common sense as they involve themselves in alcohol and/or drug abuse.

2. Sugar and weight gain: Sugar may taste good, but sometimes too much of a good thing is bad. As is the case with sugar, which is easily converted into fat by your body. Sugar can give you a jolt of energy, but it will also cause cravings, which will inevitably cause you to eat more, and furthermore, gain weight.

Then obviously you will eat more and more sugary foods and continue to put on more and more weight. I suggest that you replace sugary foods with healthier alternatives such as potatoes, rice, natural fruits and vegetables, bread, pasta, etc. Just remember, sugar = bad glucose, healthier alternatives = good glucose.

3. Drink plenty of water: Drinking water is essential for weight loss and for an overall healthy body! You can drink as much water as you want and you wont gain weight. I never apply mascara without curling my lashes first. With that in mind, I have one final tip to help your lashes look their best. To get the best curl from your lashes, you can warm up your eyelash curler. Think about it, you use a warm curling iron to curl your hair, why wouldn't your eyelashes curl better if the eyelash curler were warm. I will use my body heat to help warm my eye lash curler.

Sometimes I find myself in a rush. In these cases, I simply run my blow dryer over it for a few seconds to warm it up. If you use your blow dryer, be cautious not to heat it up too much. Your eye area is sensitive, so test the temperature of the curler with your finger. With these cold weather tips, you can still look great and create beautiful winter makeup looks.
